Angela Nicotera has come a long way from Manly, a seaside destination just outside of Sydney, Australia. It was there she began as a cheerleader for the Manly Seabirds, the cheer team which supports the rugby team the Manly Sea Eagles. This rugby team has had a long history of success thanks in part to their spirited cheers, making them the team hometown fans "love to hate" for their success, according to Wikipedia.
From those beginnings she joined hundreds of hopefuls in the United States to try out for this season's Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. After a grueling and difficult audition process, she became one of 34 final selections for the cheerleading team. The mainstream media was excited by this transcontinental success, with Fox News incorrectly reporting that she was the first Australian cheerleader to make this journey. That honor actually belongs to Wendi Wasson, who cheered for the Cowboys in 1980.
Nicotera, who graduated college with a degree in chiropractic medicine, seems to have brought luck with her from across the oceans; the Dallas Cowboys' Cheerleaders spirit helped bring the team to victory in their first preseason game.
