The Indiana State Fair started out as a fun family event but ended in tragedy earlier this month. Fans of country music sensation Sugarland were gathered to hear a breathtaking performance. However, the excitement quickly turned into pandemonium as winds picked up to 70 miles an hour and shook the Indiana State Fair stage until it collapsed. Over forty people were injured, with 7 dying of their injuries on the scene or in the days to come.
Meagan Toothman, a 2005 graduate of Wittenberg University, sadly passed away a few days after being injured in the collapse. Meagan was the cheer coach for the Turpin High School cheerleading team, and the news of her death was shocking to everyone who knew her. As Meagan lived her life she was a light to those in her community and continually expressed her spirited attitude in everything she accomplished. She also taught her cheer squad the importance of teamwork and what it means to pass on that “light” to others.
Those of us at Cheer Channel share our deepest thoughts and prayers with the family of Meagan Toothman. She will continue to be a blessing thanks to her choice to be an organ donor. Meagan’s legacy will live on through her cheer squad and anyone who has ever come into contact with her.
